Hi Ian,
Great news about Stephanie coming over to visit this evening - could just be the boost you need at the moment after the post-crystal depression! Are you still going to try homeopathy? The Society of Homeopaths usually has a list of qualified practitioners in a box under "homeopaths" in Yellow Pages. Worth a try, if you haven't found them already.
Hope you are feeling better today than you were yesterday. I was interested that you mentioned the tumours swelled when you were feeling depressed. So, could the opposite emotional feelings do the opposite to the cancer? Hope so. And I hope it all goes well this evening, Ian. I know it means a tremendous amount to you and Claire.
Love to you all!

Should Hand Held Cell Phones be Outlawed While Driving??

Minimus:
I never said that this study proved that. I put a AAA study out. Period. Try reading again.
Don't have to. You were using this study to substantiate your claim (that is obvious from the context of your post) and it didn't. Period. One of the things that bothers me is that sometimes it is the little inconsistencies in somebody's argument that give an indication as to how illogical they are thinking, as in this point in question. Jahna, I agree with your basic thinking on this subject, but it is about magnitude. It is much more distracting to use a cellphone whilst driving than it is to practice many of the things you mentioned. And I agree, it is usually people (or rather their stupid actions) that are inevitably responsible for accidents, not the cellphones themselves! But it worries me that there are some people out there who seem unable to grasp the simple relationship of cause and effect. Joe

I'm sure you can read.
Good. But can you? Where is the mention of the person talking to and distracting the driver as a cause of accidents in the study you quoted?

My answer to the original question - yes. They are here in the UK anyway, and of course it is a good idea - that's just common sense, isn't it?

Reply----When someone is seated next to me and is talking and trying to hold a conversation, they expect you to look at them, react to THEM, etc. I find talking to people personally in a car much more demanding than talking on a phone. Some of your arguments are based upon the perception that everyone feels as you do and that you know what's best for us. And just because YOU don't think a comparison is apt, so what? I do.
So your argument is that "talking to people personally in a car" is much more demanding than talking on a phone. DanTheMan accused you of knee-jerk responses, to which you "backed up" your comments with concrete "facts" based on a study:According to the Canada Safety Council, a 2001 AAA study said, "Distracted drivers account for 9% of serious crashes. Of that number, 1.5% were using or dialing a cell phone. In comparison, 11.4% were distracted by adjusting a radio, cassette, or CD and almost 30% were distracted by an outside person, object or event." There's my knee-jerk reaction.
Where is the mention of that person in the car distracting the driver? Can you please direct me to the words that say that? Afterall, that was your argument, wasn't it? And that is why you quoted the above, to substantiate your claim, wasn't it? I mean, you couldn't have lasted over 10,000 posts here without at least an average ability to make some form of logical sense and form a decent argument, could you? Using a cellphone whilst driving increases the chance of having an accident. It is not necessary to illustrate this here with studies that prove this, the UK government has already done that, and, based on those studies, thought it necessary to ban the use of mobile phones whilst driving. But we don't need governments to do studies - most of us have a brain to tell us that. I'm sorry if you don't put avoiding the potential loss of human life (even your own) before having a chat on your cellphone, but I do. And I hope nobody here has paid a lot of attention to your nonsense. Joe -

WOW! You're really taking the bull by the horns, aren't you mate! Well I think it's just fantastic that you are handling this so well and taking control of the situation. One of the most frightening things about cancer must be that it tries to overpower a person, sucking the very life out of his or her being until he or she is eventually destroyed. But that's what cancer does, just like a parasite. However, by doing what you are doing, Ian, you are sending a message to this cancer: "I am not afraid of you, I am stronger than you, I will destroy YOU!"
And you will!
